How Points Are Valued
While points alone are not enough to suspend your license, reaching six points will add further fines (called surcharges) to any violations for which you are ticketed. Moving violations will add two points to your record, and any violations that result in a collision will add three.
Surcharges for violations are as follows:
- $1,000 – DWI first offense
- $1,500 – DWI second offense
- Up to $250 – Driving without insurance
- $250 – Driving without a valid license
- Up to $100 – Driving without a license
This means that once you have reached six points on your license, each of the above surcharges will need to be paid for three years — once for every year the traffic violation is on your record.
